ATP TESTING

The ATP test is a process of rapidly measuring actively growing microorganisms through detection of adenosine triphosphate, or ATP.  ATP is an energy-carrying molecule abundantly found in the cells of all living things. It can only be produced by living organisms such that its presence is a direct indication of any and all kinds of biological matter (microorganisms, biofilm and other biological residues) that are invisible to the naked eye.  This testing can quickly confirm that surfaces have been properly cleaned and sanitized.  There are several uses for ATP testing within pharmacy compounding suites such as:

  • Identifying areas that are prone to repeated contamination
  • Cleaning validations (After construction as well as after full cleaning has taken place)
  • Provide immediate results after a loss of control within the cleanrooms has happened (Air Handler malfunction or Exhaust Fan failure)
  • Random testing of controlled areas and rooms
